Pre-Dentistry
The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma has a designated pre-dental
advisor who receives information concerning the entrance requirements of the dental
colleges and who will help students plan their program for each trimester they are in
college, regardless of what major they may choose. The pre-dental student should
secure approval of the pre-dental advisor each time the student enrolls. Although the
various dental colleges do not have uniform entrance requirements, there is a great deal
of similarity among them. The pre-dental students can start their program before
selecting a dental college. Although the student may choose any program of study for a
major, most pre-dental students choose either a biology or chemistry major. These two
majors provide the best preparation for the DAT (Dental Admission Test). The
minimum coursework should include:
| Course | Title | Hours Required |
| IDS 1113, 1213 | Writing | 6 |
| CHEM 1111, 1113, 1121, 1123 | General Chemistry | 8 |
| CHEM 3302, 3312, 3303, 3313 | Organic Chemistry | 10 |
| PHYS 1301, 1401, 2114, 2124 | General Physics | 10 |
| Biology elective with laboratory | Biology | 8 |
In general, all programs involving clinical work require selective admission before the clinical phase of the education. A good academic record as well as an exact program of courses will be needed. All pre-health related students should first contact the chair of the science department, who will secure an informed advisor for them. Students interested in health-related professions other than those specifically mentioned above may find that a part or all of their pre-professional work can be done at USAO. All such people are invited to contact the chair of the science department for information.
