A reader mailed ITN a copy of a letter sent to Capital One Services on Nov. 18, '04, as follows. I recently received a mail solicitation from Capital One stating that I had been chosen for an offer for a new kind of rewards card, the Capital One Go Miles Visa Platinum card. The card sounded interesting, except the literature made no mention of the number of miles required to obtain free flights. I called Capital One to inquire about this. The response was that the number of miles that needed to be redeemed would be calculated using a formula that would be provided to me with my new card. I complained that the formula was important in my decision as to whether or not I should apply for the new card. Your representative responded that I would have to make my decision based on the information available. Since the other benefits of the card seemed attractive, I applied for the card over the phone. The card arrived shortly thereafter and I activated it. The correspondence that arrived with the card contained the following statement in paragraph 23 of the Terms and Conditions: "Please see your original solicitation for the specific formula used for calculating the number of miles necessary for ticket redemption." As stated previously, the original solicitation did not address this issue. I immediately called Capital One and asked for the specific formula that would apply to me. I was told repeatedly by several of your representatives that I would not need this information until the time came to redeem my miles. I insisted that I did not intend to use the card until I knew the formula, because I wanted to know the value of the Capital One miles versus the value of miles obtained with other reward cards. Your representative finally told me that since my account was new, the information would not be available for a couple of weeks. related things : 17. consolidate credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/consolidate-credit-card 18. secured credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/secured-credit-card 19. uk credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/uk-credit-card 20. bad credit credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/bad-credit-credit-card 21. chase.com credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/chase.com-credit-card 22. low apr credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/low-apr-credit-card 23. student credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/student-credit-card 24. http://www.aoao.info/search/ http://www.aoao.info/search/ 25. eliminate credit card debt http://www.aoao.info/search/eliminate-credit-card-debt 26. accept credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/accept-credit-card 27. online credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/online-credit-card 28. southwest airline credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/southwest-airline-credit-card 29. college credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/college-credit-card 30. capital one credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/capital-one-credit-card 31. the best credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/the-best-credit-card 32. low interest credit card http://www.aoao.info/search/low-interest-credit-card 33. credit card merchant account http://www.aoao.info/search/credit-card-merchant-account
