USAO Alumni Scholarship List

The USAO Alumni Association oversees 74 scholarships established by the generosity of alumni and friends. Approximately 30-40 USAO students will receive scholarship awards ranging from $600 to $1,500 for an academic year. Many times, the financial assistance help students focus on what is important to them and to USAO: education.
Students wishing to apply for USAO Alumni Association scholarships must provide the necessary materials by the deadline stated on the scholarship application form. The form is available at the USAO Office of Alumni Development, Room 126 Troutt Hall, or you may print an online form click here.

All USAO Alumni Association scholarships require students to have a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. and maintain full-time academic status.
Mo Gregg Anderson
The scholarship will be given to a student needing financial assistance to pursue an education.
Ruth Gardner Ball
This scholarship is to be awarded to a sophomore or junior Communications major who has a 3.0 grade point average.
Flavia Brown Bare
Preference will be given to a student in the Arts and Humanities who has a financial need.
Dr. Kathleen Black
This scholarship is to be awarded to a Native American woman, preferably an incoming freshman and can be renewed until she graduates.
Kathryn Kniseley Bond
Preference is to be given to a Music major.
Dr. Bonnie Bell Butler Buchanan
This scholarship is to be awarded to a Home Economics major if there is a program. If there is not, it is to be awarded on the basis of need, proven ability as evidenced by grades. The recipient must be single.
Burruss Family
The recipient of this scholarship should be a student working their way through school, who is of good character.
Zelma Ball Burruss
The Zelma Ball Burruss scholarship shall be based on need.
Mildred Matthews Chambless Family
Preference female, 35 years old or older, of any major.
Craig Foundation
This scholarship is to be awarded to a junior or senior taking a minimum of 15 hours, based on need.
Dr. Brenda Stanfill Cranmer
This scholarship is to be based on need. (Dr. Cranmer’s field of study was Speech and Hearing Therapy).
Shirley Mitchell Duckwall
This scholarship is for a student who wishes to be an elementary school teacher.
Lorraine Wooster Eck
The scholarship is designed for a Music Education major, to be selected by the scholarship committee or the Fine Arts Division.
Margaret A. Elliott
Established by Dr. Virginia Roeder Wenger, the award will go to a junior or senior who is outstanding in English and/or British Literature and poetry.
Kathryn Duncan Empie
This scholarship is to be given to an Oklahoma student in the field of Speech and Language Therapy.
Loucile Bennett Evans
This scholarship is to be given to a student majoring in Art, picked by the head of the Art Department. If there is no longer an Art Department, a student of English or Education shall receive the scholarship.
Dr. Samuel W. Evans
Scholarship is to be given to one who is prepared to be a teacher. It is not a requirement to be a History major but would like recipient to be one showing high interest in upholding the principles our forefathers set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
Fay Craddock Finley
In loving memory of Fay, Mary Alice and Suzanne Jackson established this scholarship for a music major.
Janis Marsh Fitzgerald
This music scholarship was established by Dan Fitzgerald in memory of Ms. Fitzgerald who was a 1954 graduate.
Hazel Frost
This scholarship is to be awarded to a Home Economics major. If there is no program. It is to be awarded on the basis of need.
Irene Stephens Gibbons
Mary Alice, daughter, and Suzanne Jackson, granddaughter, established this scholarship in loving memory of Irene.
Annie Rebecca Minshew Gillis
The estate of Lois Gillis Hall established this scholarship in memory of Ms. Hall’s mother. The scholarship is for a student majoring in English.
Belle Leonard Good
This scholarship is intended for a student majoring in English.
Calvin Favorite Good
This scholarship gives preference to a student majoring in English.
Leonard and Yoshie Good
Preference will be given to English majors who plan to pursue graduate studies.
Jacob Calvin and Belle Leonard Good
A student majoring in English is eligible for this scholarship.
Anne Jones Griffin
Established in her daughter's memory, Jerri Jones intents that this scholarship go to an Art, Math or Music education major.
Lois Gillis Hall Scholarship
Established by Myrtle Stevens to honor this 1918 graduate and Hall of Fame recipient. The scholarship is for a student needing financial assistance.
Dr. Edith Hammond
This scholarship is unrestricted.
Anne Marie Hooper Harrison
Established by this 1956 graduate and Hall of Fame recipient, Anne Marie Harrison, this scholarship will be awarded for students in the fine arts.
Barbara Gardiner Hearon
The scholarship is intended to assist a female junior or senior majoring in education.
Dr. Jeane Porter Hester
This scholarship is to assist a female student who might otherwise not be able to continue their education.
Diana Wight Hill
Established by Dr. Nancy Warden and friends to honor her memory, this scholarship will be available to a junior or senior student needing financial assistance.
Phyllis E. Hillery
Wishing to help her alma mater, Phyllis established this scholarship for juniors or seniors. First preference is for a Native American. Secondary preference is for a Biology or Pre-Physical Therapy major.
Lynda Hanna Holding
Established by Sue Caldwell Smith, ‘49, this scholarship is to be awarded to an Elementary Education major.
Mark Walter Howery
This scholarship is to be used for an American young man born of American parents, second or third year student in any discipline.
Phyllis June O’Dell James
Established by Francis Ellis Ziegler, the need based scholarship is intended to assist an Early Childhood Education major.
Marjorie Foncannon Johnson
This scholarship is to be based on need.
Dr. Venetta Bynum Kell
In honor of Dr. Kell's educational career, Ann Kell established this unrestricted scholarship in her Mother's memory.
Danny and Todd Kelly
In memory of her two sons, Oweda would like for this scholarship to go to someone who plans to graduate from USAO, who needs financial assistance, with no specifics, but with a dedication to God and country.
Dr. Anna Lewis
Winnidell Gravitt Wilson, niece, established this scholarship for a female student of History, Social Studies.
Barbara Crouch Lies
This scholarship is designated for a Voice or Music Education major.
Bernadene Protzman Lovell
This scholarship is to be given to a student majoring in Early Childhood or Elementary Education. Preferably someone from Caddo or Grady County.
Loyal Daughters – OCW
This scholarship is to be given to a senior student whose need is such that he/she cannot graduate without financial help.
Marion Letha Milton
Honoring a lifelong friendship prompted Bernardyne Vipperman to establish this scholarship for a Haileyville student wishing to attend the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.
Eileen Smith Mosley
This scholarship is to be presented to a junior or senior student needing financial assistance to complete their degree.
Newman-Hill
Mary Newman Fortenberry and Dorothy Hill Kerbow established this scholarship for a drama major.
Merenda O’Bar
1967 graduate and Hall of Fame recipient, Angelina Merenda O’Bar and her husband Jesse established this scholarship for students enrolled in USAO’s Early Childhood Program. Preference given to students involved in USAO’s Student National Education Association (SNEA).
Patricia Cooper Percy
This scholarship should be awarded on the basis of need. Preference given to a music major.
Marguerite Martin Pinkston
This scholarship is to be based on need. Preferably a second year student.
Oliver Bennett Powers
The scholarship is to be given to a music education major needing financial assistance.
Lauraleene Baxter Price
Eligible students include any that can demonstrate financial need, with preference given to science majors.
Kathryn Lois Quattlebaum
This scholarship was established by her classmates and will provide help to a young woman who might not otherwise be afforded the opportunity of a quality education.
Joan Hughes Rawlings
Established by Dr. Virginia Wenger, this scholarship is available to assist an aspiring young student wanting to receive a college education at USAO and needing financial assistance.
Mary Russell
This scholarship is to be awarded to a Home Economics major. If there is no program is to be awarded on the basis of need.
Betty Sanders
The recipient of this scholarship should be someone struggling financially to receive an education.
Cecil & Norma Lea Drake Sanderson
This scholarship was established to honor their alma mater, students having financial need.
Ina Edmondson Schowengerdt
This scholarship was established so that students with financial difficulties can realize the dream of going to college.
Dr. Martha Shackleford
The Martha Shackleford scholarship shall be presented to a Junior or Senior in the field of Biological Sciences. The selection shall be made by Biological Science Faculty and Alumni. Criteria considered will be grades, attitude, originality.
Ed and Aleta Walker Smalley
This scholarship is available to a young aspiring student who wants to go to college.
Dr. Rose Marie Smith
This award is for a junior or senior communication major.
Christina Satterfield Swanson
This scholarship is designated for a student majoring in education and needing financial assistance in order to attain a degree. The scholarship is lovingly given by Christina’s daughters, Iona Hoopert and Anna Claire Kuchto.
Garland and Myrtle Stevens
Preference is to be given a Home Economics student. If there is no program, it is to be awarded on the basis of need.
Dr. Clarice Tatman
This scholarship is based on need. If given to a continuing student, grades will be considered.
J. Harper and Mary Ellen Thomas
The scholarship will be awarded to a Deaf Education or Speech Pathology major.
Dr. Roy and Ruth Troutt
A student wishing to obtain a college education, needing financial assistance, and qualifying for admittance is eligible to be considered for this scholarship.
Dr. Dorothy Tulloss
The scholarship is to be given to a woman majoring in one of the arts, preferably music.
David H. Vaughn
Honoring their son, David Sr. and Sofia established this scholarship to assist students wishing to visit another country.
Adda Mitchell Voigt
This scholarship is to be awarded to a student majoring in Elementary Education. Preferably someone who grew up on a working farm.
Fred Voigt Award for Excellence in Science
Established by daughter, Dr Virginia Roeder Wenger, the award will go to a junior or senior who is outstanding in science.
Mary Frances Willis West
The scholarship is to be awarded to someone who loves music, is a hard worker and just needs a little help.
Nance Foules Wier
This scholarship is to be awarded to a female student needing financial assistance. She must be a diligent student in creative writing or teaching English.
Dr. Loyce J. Willett
Preference is to be given to a Physical Education/Health major. The scholarship is to be awarded the semester the student is to do Student Teaching. It is not to be awarded as an athletic scholarship. In the event that a Physical Education/Health major no longer exists at USAO the criteria will be redirected for this scholarship.
