Drovers Sweep Mid-America

CHICKASHA – Freshmen pitchers Mike Cullen and Jeff Walker earned wins in their first collegiate starts as the University of Science and Arts took a two-game series from Mid-America Christian Tuesday afternoon at Bill Smith Ballpark.

With four home runs – including two from Kyle Bradburry – Cullen claimed an 11-1 win in Game One. Walker pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three unearned runs on two hits with four strikeouts in USAO’s 8-3 win in Game Two.

With the sweep, the Drovers improved to 6-6 on the season and have won their last four games leading up to this weekend’s Sooner Athletic Conference opener at Lubbock Christian beginning at 3 p.m. Friday.

The home fans had plenty to cheer about in Game One as Drover batters - one after the other - went yard. Senior Chad Ralls started things off in the first inning with a solo homer to right center field. Bradburry followed that with his first of two home runs as USAO jumped on top 4-0.

Kris Kolar and Cody Hines later added home runs to help the Drovers pull away and win by run-rule. Cullen pitched all five innings allowing four hits and one earned run with five strikeouts.

In Game Two, USAO scored five runs over its final three at bats to break open a surprisingly close game. Only Bryan Jones had more than one hit, and only Ralls drove in more than one run, which was a stark difference from Game One.

Bradburry had the most impressive day at the plate by far. By day’s end, he had posted four hits, four RBIs, two homers, one double and one triple.
