Drovers Split Twinbill with Peru State

CHICKASHA – A monster first-inning homerun by Ryan Brincat got things started on the right foot as the University of Science and Arts won Game Two of Saturday’s doubleheader with Peru State College 11-4.

PSC took Game One 6-4 despite USAO out-hitting the Bobcats. The two teams will matchup one more time for a nine-inning game Monday beginning at 2 p.m.

Brincat's homerun, which reportedly landed somewhere near Blanchard, drove in Bryan Jones and Grady Wood to give USAO a 3-0 lead after one. Starting pitcher Justin Ferguson gave up three runs on three hits in the second inning as PSC tied the score at 3-3.

The Bobcats scored again in the third and held a 4-3 lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when Jones and Wood again got things started. Jones doubled to left center and scored on Wood’s single up the middle. Kris Kolar drove in Brincat and Wood on his base hit to right field and the route was on.

USAO scored eight runs in the fifth to take a commanding lead. Ferguson gave up only one hit over the final two innings to earn the win in his second complete game. He improved to 2-1 on the season.

The top three batters in the Drover lineup did most of the damage as Jones went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs. Wood went 2-for-3 with two scores and two RBIs, and Brincat added two runs scored and three RBIs.

Kolar powered the middle of the lineup with a 3-for-3 day with one run scored and two RBIs.
