CHICKASHA – Rebounding
from a disappointing weekend at Lubbock Christian, the University of Science
and Arts picked up two wins against Rogers State Tuesday afternoon at Bill
Smith Ballpark.
The Drovers scored five
runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and another two runs in the bottom
of the sixth to rally past the Hillcats in Game One 9-8. In Game Two Jeff
Walker, of Cyril, got the win improving to 2-0 this season in as many starts
as the Drovers jumped out to a quick lead and held on for a 4-2 win.
In Game One, RSC broke a
2-2 tie in the top of the fourth inning with five runs. USAO answered with
five runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning. A double by Cody
Hines scored Kris Kolar and Brandt Lierle to get things started. And a
double by Joel Atchley just two batters later scored Jake Robertson (pinch
running for Hines) and Bryan Jones.
Atchley scored later in
the inning off a single by Adam Crosbie tying the score.
Down 8-7 in the bottom of
the sixth, USAO rallied again when Ryan Brincat drove in Kyle Bradburry, and
Lierle singled through the right side to score Crosbie.
Matt Mallory earned the
first of two saves on the day by retiring the side in the top of the
seventh.
Walker started Game Two
the same way he started his first start of the season. He only gave up one
run on four hits with three strikeouts through the first three innings as
USAO jumped out to a 3-1 lead and never looked back.
Mallory earned another
save by only allowing one run in the Hillcats’ final at bat as the Drovers
claimed the 4-2 win.
USAO improved to 8-9
overall this season and will continue a nine-game home stand with a
doubleheader Wednesday against Cameron and a nine-inning game against Iowa
Wesleyan on Thursday.
