Hall of Fame Gets New Members

CHICKASHA – Four former student-athletes of the University of Science and Arts were inducted into school’s Athletic Hall of Fame Feb. 10 at the USAO Fieldhouse. All four inductees were the first to represent their respective sports in the Hall of Fame.

Former Drovers Jason Brown and Jay Moore are the first baseball players to be inducted, and former soccer players Alexis Vizerelis and Molly (Warren) Largent are the first men’s and women’s soccer players to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Brown was a two-time First-Team All-Red River Conference selection at first base and two-time RRAC Player of the Week. The Haskell native led the RRAC with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs in 1999 and posted 11 home runs and 59 RBIs in 2000.

Behind Brown’s .355 career batting average, USAO posted a 57-53 record, captured its first league title and advanced to the NAIA Region VI title game in 2000 at Houston’s Enron Field.

Moore led the Drovers in almost every offensive category during his career from 1996-97. Moore, a native of Grove, was USAO’s first all-conference baseball player and was twice named All-Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference at first base earning first-team honors in 1996.

He was the first Drover to bat over .400, and he finished his playing career with 22 home runs and a .373 career batting average. Moore served as an assistant coach under L.J. Powell for three seasons. During the 2000 season, he took over for an ailing Powell and guided the Drovers to the RRAC North Division championship and the Region VI title game. Moore also coached the St. Gregory’s baseball team.

Vizarelis has been a staple of the USAO soccer program since anchoring the inaugural team in 1998. A native of London, England, Vizarelis is one of the most decorated Drover players in history. Once the holder of every USAO goalkeeping record, he was twice named NAIA All-American Honorable Mention and NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete.

During his four seasons under head coach Jimmy Hampton, Vizarelis posted several school-records including a 44-26 record, 21 shutouts and 453 saves. As an assistant coach over the past five seasons, he has helped the Drover men to three straight conference tournament titles, the first regional tournament appearance and the program’s best record in 2006.

Largent, a native of Edmond, put together an impressive string and school-record starting 55 consecutive games on the soccer field. The two-time NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete played a vital role as a defender and picked up all-conference honors as a senior. Largent also played tennis at USAO and was selected as an NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete for tennis as well.
