Drovers Bounced from Tournament

BETHANY – Junior catcher Cody Hines went yard for the second time in as many games, but his solo homer in the fourth inning didn’t spark the big rally like it did in Wednesday’s game as USAO fell 12-2 to No. 3 Oklahoma City Friday afternoon in the SAC Tournament at Cypert Field.

Senior pitcher Matt Mallory held OCU at bay for most of the game allowing only 10 hits while striking out six batters, but the Stars made their hits count with three home runs in the fourth inning taking a 6-0 lead. OCU finished the game with six home runs from six different batters.

The University of Science and Arts finishes its season with a 23-25-1 overall record after qualifying for the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time in school history. The team did make postseason play as a member of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Association and the Red River Athletic Conference.

Mallory finished his career with a 6-5 record as a senior and his six strikeouts gave him 76 on the season, which ranks first in Drover history for Ks in a season. He now ranks third in all-time for career strikeouts with 118 behind Chad Jerman (147 in four seasons) and Brandon Brantley (119 in two seasons).
