Baseball on Winning Streak

CHICKASHA – Cody Hines set the tempo Monday afternoon with two home runs in his first two at bats as the University of Science and Arts swept the doubleheader against Hillsdale College by scores of 26-1 and 10-0.

Monday’s wins marked the second three-game winning streak of the young season for the Drovers as the team improved to 7-3-1 with a two-game road trip coming this week.

Hines’ six-RBI game is the most by a Drover player since Tanner Taliaferro hit two grand slams and drove in nine runs against Southern Nazarene last season. Hines finished the day just 2-of-2 since USAO was ahead 15-0 after the second inning.

Shortstop Louie Romero had a career day as well at the plate going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Sophomore Brandt Lierle failed to hit one out of the yard, but the emerging slugger  scored three times and drove in three runs on his 3-for-4 day.

Jeff Walker picked up the win pitching five innings giving up one earned run with three strikeouts. Cody Peacock picked up his first win of the year in Game Two pitching a two-hit shutout with one strikeout.

Joel Atchley and Dale Bellamy combined for four RBIs in Game Two as Atchley went 3-for-3 at the plate for the second time this season.

USAO hits the road this week with a nine-inning game at Southwestern Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Wednesday and a doubleheader scheduled for 1/3 p.m. at Texas Wesleyan on Saturday.
