CHICKASHA – The University of Science and Arts’ baseball team split its third doubleheader of the young season with a three-run sixth inning in game two of Tuesday’s doubleheader against Friends University at Bill Smith Ballpark. USAO won game two 3-0 after dropping game one 5-2.
After failing to score with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, USAO scored all three runs in the sixth after loading the bases for the second time. The Drovers improved to 4-3 overall as the team begins conference play Thursday at St. Gregory’s.
Kyle Dotson got the sixth inning started with a single. After an unsuccessful fielder’s choice, a wild pitch, and a walk, the Drovers had the bases loaded with no outs. Louie Romero drove in Dalton House, who pinch ran for Dotson, on a sacrifice fly to center field. Ryan Birney loaded the bases again with a single, and Scott Ylda drove in two runs with a double.
Ken Wieda picked up his first win of the season after throwing the final two scoreless innings. Caleb Martin, Cory Milford and Alfonso Cardenas combined for only two hits through the first five innings.
The Drovers are back at home Saturday with a conference doubleheader scheduled against St. Gregory’s prior to the USAO basketball doubleheader.
