Drovers Win Homerun Derby

CHICKASHA – With the help of four home runs, the University of Science and Arts took both games of Saturday’s home doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian and swept the three-game series. The Drovers run-ruled the Eagles 19-3 Friday afternoon and 18-8 in game one Saturday. USAO took game three 9-8 to improve to 10-7 overall and 6-3 in the league.

Saturday’s doubleheader featured nine homers from both teams, but the Drovers were in control most of the day despite the close finish of the series finale. USAO out-hit OC 15-7, but the Eagles made their hits count. OC only stranded one runner on base while the Drovers left 12 runners aboard.

Senior centerfielder Bryan Jones had a career day by going 5-of-8 at the plate with seven runs scored, two home runs and eight RBIs. Brandt Lierle went yard in game one and finished the day with four hits and six RBIs.

Dalton House helped USAO to a run-rule win with a 4-for-4 performance in game one, and Joel Atchley drove in three runs in game two.

Freshman pitcher Caleb Martin collected his second win of the season in game one. Ricky Duke picked up his first win of the season pitching in relief in game two. Duke pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings in game two to shut down the Eagle offense and spark a Drover rally.
