How to set up your USAO email account:

By now, most if not all of the USAO student body has figured out that they are entitled to a free USAO email address that they can use for the duration of their enrollment at USAO. Once you graduate, you can request an alumni email address which is also free.

The format that USAO uses for naming the student email addresses is very simple. Basically, it’s the word “stu” followed by your first name and last name, which in turn is followed by “@usao.edu”. So, for example, if your name is John Smith, then your email address would be stujohnsmith@usao.edu. Your password that’s automatically assigned to you is the first initial (uppercase) of your first name followed by the first initial of your last name (also uppercase), followed by the last four digits of your social security number. So for example, if John Smith’s social security number is 111-33-1001, then his password would be “JS1001”.

NOTE: If your pre-assigned password doesn't work for you, then try switching around your initials.

In the past, we’ve used a different format for naming the student email addresses; so if this current format doesn’t work for you, then you’re probably set up under the old format. In that case, please come by Information Services in Austin Hall (Room 113) and talk to any of the staff there. They will be more than happy to help you out.

To Check Your Email, please go to http://webmail.usao.edu, OR go to the main USAO page (http://www.usao.edu) and click on the Webmail link near the top part of the page in the middle. Once there, you can log in to your account with your username and password, and send & receive email using your USAO email address.

Changing your Email Account Password:
If you would like to change your email account password, you can do so at any time by going to: https://www.onenet.net/password

E-Mail Forwarding to Non-University Email Accounts:
You can use the mail forwarding feature built into your USAO webmail account to forward all email you receive there to another email address. If you plan to forward your USAO e-mail to a non-University account, please be aware that many commercial e-mail providers do not handle forwarded mail very well. The only way to guarantee that important University-related messages, including grade reports, course schedules and emergency notifications, actually reach you is to leave your USAO account un-forwarded and regularly check your mail using Webmail, or a compatible email client (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird).

And lastly, please check out the USAO Information Services page (http://www.usao.edu/infoservices) which has:

  • virus removal information
  • voice mail instructions
  • convenient link to change your USAO email account password
  • dorm network connection instructions
  • downloadable application for internet in your Sparks dorm room or Lawson apartment
  • contact information for Information Services staff
  • And lots of other goodies!
