Placing an Intercom (on campus) Call
With or without the handset lifted, dial an extension number.
Lift the handset for privacy OR press SPKR or ANSWER buttons to respond
hands-free. Off-campus calls ring through with a single ring, while
on-campus call demonstrate a quick double-ring.
Setting the Number of Rings Before the Caller
Goes to Voice Mail
This option can vary, depending on your needs. The default number of rings
is four, then Voice Mail will pick up. If you need more time to answer
your phone, please call Hal Pike (1275) or Jim Hopkins (1224) to change this for
you.
Placing an
Outside Call
With or without the handset lifted, press 8 OR the OUTGOING key.
Dial the desired number. If you try to dial a long distance call and you
hear a single long tone, you must dial a special code before you can place your
call. If you do not know what your code is, please visit with your
department secretary.
To Make an EMERGENCY Call
Simply dial 911 to automatically place a call.
Answering an
Outside Call
Lift the handset OR press ANSWER button.
Redialing
an Outside Number
While on a call or after selecting a
line, press REDIAL. A line is selected automatically and the number is
dialed.
Placing a Call on Hold
Press HOLD and hang up OR place another call.
To return to the call, lift the handset and press the flashing key.
Transferring a Call to Another Extension
Press the TRANSFER key.
Dial the desired extension number.
Wait for an answer, announce the call, and then hang up to complete the
transfer.
If the number is busy or there is no answer, you can return to the caller by
pressing the flashing key.
Transferring a Call to Voice Mail
Press the TRANSFER key.
Dial the Voice Mail extension number (1390).
If you want to send the call to a specific Voice Mail mailbox, dial the
desired extension number and then hang up.
If you want to send the call to the Voice Mail main menu (so that the caller can
select the mailbox number), hang up.
Transferring a Call to an Outside Number
To Pick up
a Call from Another Extension
Press the TRANSFER key and select an outside line.
Dial the desired telephone number.
Wait for an answer, announce the call, and then hang up to complete the
transfer.
If the number is busy or there is no answer, return to the caller being
transferred by pressing the flashing key.
Lift the handset and press the PICKUP key. If you have no PICKUP key on
your telephone, press the ∞
(infinity key) and then press 4. Dial the extension
number where the call is ringing or holding.
If you have a FWD button:
Press the FWD button.
Forwarding to outside telephone number: Select an outside line and
dial a telephone number.
Forwarding to an extension number: Dial the extension number.
Forwarding to your Voice Mail mailbox: Dial the Voice Mail
extension number (1390).
If you do not have a FWD button, or wish to use one of the
options available:
Press the ∞
(infinity key) then:
- To Call Forward All Calls - enter 7355. All incoming calls
are forwarded without ringing at your phone.
- To Call Forward if No Answer - enter 7356. All incoming
calls are forwarded if they are not answered before a timer expires. (This
timer is adjusted by the system; it cannot be changed at your phone. If
you wish the timer to be changed, please call Hal Pike at extension 1275.)
- To Call Forward if Busy - enter 7357. When your phone is
busy, all incoming calls are forwarded without ringing at your phone.
- To Call Forward If No Answer or Busy - enter 7358. All
incoming calls are forwarded if your phone is busy or if you do not answer, as
described above.
Then do one of the following:
- To forward to an outside number: Select an outgoing line
and dial a telephone number.
- To forward to an on-campus extension number: Dial the
extension number.
- To forward to your message center: Press the MSG button.
To Cancel the Call Forward
Press the FWD button and then the SPKR button.
Using the Message Key
To signal that a message or call-back is waiting, a keyset's MSG key flashes and
the display shows the number of waiting messages. (If you leave a message
for a single-line set, the user will hear several short tones after lifting the
handset or pressing the hookswitch.)

If you call a campus extension that is busy, does not answer, or
is in do-not-disturb, you can use the Messaging Feature to let the other person
know you called.
- Have the called party return your call automatically. When the
party you called responds to the message light, a call is automatically placed
to your phone.
- Leave a message with the called party's voice mailbox. When the
party you called responds to the message light, a call is automatically placed
to their voice mailbox instead of your phone.
- To leave an automatic call-back if you get a busy signal or they do not
answer the call, simply press the MSG button and hang up.
- To leave a message if you get a busy signal or they do not answer the
call, press the MSG button and wait for the message center to answer.
- To cancel a message you left at another phone, press
∞ 7366, then the
extension number of the phone where you left the message.
While on the first call, press the
∞ (infinity key) and then press
∞
5. The call is now on hold.
Place your second call, either on campus extension or an outside call.
Then press ∞
5 to place the second call on hold. (If necessary, repeat
this step to place a third call on hold.)
Press ∞
5 to join all of the calls together in conference.
Note: There can be a maximum of up to four parties in a
conference call. In addition to the initiating station, the conference can
include any combination of up to three intercom (inside the campus) and/or
outside calls.
Press the high or low end of the Volume key to increase or
decrease the volume.
To save your change, press both ends of the Volume key at the same time.
With several people sharing an office, it sometimes becomes difficult to
determine whose telephone is ringing. To change the type of ring tone for
your phone:
With the handset in the cradle, dial
∞ 7398.
Do one of the following to select your ring tone:
- Press 0 for no ringing.
- Press the high or low end of the Volume key to scroll to the desired
tone.
- Press 1-9 to select a specific tone.
When you hear the tone you want, press #.
To mute the telephone so that you can hear the other party but they cannot
hear you (this does not put them on hold):
- Press the MUTE button.
- To return to the caller, press the MUTE button again.
The "Group Listen" feature allows you to transmit a
conversation over the speaker while using the handset. This allows other
people in the room to listen to the conversation. The caller, however,
will only hear the person using the handset.
- While on a call using the handset, press the
∞
(infinity key) and then 7312.
Looking at your telephone base, you will typically see
a Call 1, Call 2, Pickup, and Intercom Keys. These keys are not
user-programmable. The other keys are, and may have been previously set.
- With the handset in the cradle, dial
∞ 7395.
- With the handset in the cradle, dial
∞ 7396.
- Press the feature key(s) you want displayed.
- Press the SPKR key to hang up.
- With the handset in the cradle, dial
∞ 7397.
- Press the feature key you want to program.
- Dial the feature code or extension number you want to store under that
key. (If you frequently need to pick up calls for someone else, you may
wish to program their extension number on one of your feature keys. Then,
when they receive a call, it will flash on this key and you then can press the
PICKUP key and the feature key to answer their call.)
