FREE Music downloads at USAO!

USAO students can now get their music for FREE! As a subscribing school to the online music warehouse Ruckus (http://www.ruckus.com), USAO now offers students a legal way to download virus-free songs, (and for a nominal fee, you can even download movies and TV shows) as well as share their playlists with other students on campus. Ruckus is available free to students and for a nominal fee for faculty, staff and alumni.

Ruckus offers more then 3 million songs, thousands of movies and TV shows including “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives". Using the Ruckus Player or Windows Media Player, students can download and play the music for free. Ruckus members can also find friends through media preferences or browse profiles online. Along with being a media download website, Ruckus is a also a social networking website (like Facebook.com, MySpace.com etc).

Students can download individual songs by searching by titles, artists or albums. Entire albums are also available. The music is playable through the Ruckus Player or Windows Media Player. Most MP3 players that are PlaysForSure enabled can also play the music that is downloaded, however this does not include Apple iPods. The music that is downloaded through Ruckus can now be burned to CD if you purchase the rights to the track for between .79 and .99 cents.

Students do not have to live on campus to take advantage of Ruckus. Music is available off campus, however movies and TV shows can only be downloaded on campus but can then be played anywhere.

Ruckus Play will only run on Windows-compatible computers, however the Ruckus Friends network is available with the Safari Web browser on Apple Macintoshes.
