GENERAL COURSE GOALS:
To help you understand and use scientific and medical words and terminology in a useful meaningful way, and to have in general a better understanding of many terms used in daily life (i.e. symphony, theology, philosophy, geology, etc.).
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
To help you learn the meanings of various Greek and Latin root words, suffixes, prefixes, etc. that are commonly used in the scientific/medical community.
to give you practice in using the terms being learned.
To develop the mental abilities needed to organize information into logical and coherent patterns.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Complete all bi-weekly examinations with a passing grade. (Note--it is expected that exams will be taken each week, unless there are extenuating circumstances.)
Learn the Greek alphabet and be able to write the upper and lower case symbols for it legibly.
You will be building a vocabulary of about 40 to 100 new terms each week, this means that you must be current with the material, try not to miss class or get behind, because this material is cumulative and once a term has been introduced, it is assumed that you will know it and be able to use it from that point in time onward.
GRADES: Grades will be based on percentages of total points accumulated during the trimester on the weekly exams. (Note: if you do not make a satisfactory grade on an exam you will be allowed to take one makeup test over that exam. You may take a make-up exam over each test given, if necessary.) REMEMBER: THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS CLASS TO HELP YOU BUILD A WORKING VOCABULARY OF SCIENTIFIC, MEDICAL, TECHNICAL & SOCIALLY USEFUL TERMINOLOGY
GRADE SCALE: 90% = A; 80% = B; 70% = C; 60% = D; 59% or lower = F
