Drovers Fall to Hot-Shooting Storm
CHICKASHA
– A 16-3 second half run helped Southeastern Oklahoma pull away for an
84-61 win over the Drovers Monday night inside the USAO Fieldhouse.
The
University of Science and Arts fell to 0-5 on the season despite hitting
over 40 percent from the floor for the third time this season. SOSU
countered with 66.7 percent shooting night – its best of the season.
Three
consecutive 3-pointers by Avery Stevenson helped the Drovers storm out to
a six-point lead early in the game. But a three-minute scoreless streak
let SOSU rally and tie the score at 18-18 with 9:56 remaining in the half.
In the final seconds of the half with a chance to cut the SOSU lead to two
points, the Drovers committed a turnover in the open court.
SOSU
responded with a layup by Matt White in the closing seconds to give the
Savage Storm a 37-31 halftime lead.
Midway
through the second half, SOSU posted its largest and most crushing run of
the game as USAO scored only three points during that five-minute stretch.
USAO had
four players finish in double figures led by 15 points from Thomas Woods
and Delane Finley. Stevenson finished with 14 points, and DeAngelo
Alexander posted 11 points. The rest of the Drovers only managed six
points.
Eric
Babers and Ryan Woolsey led SOSU with 18 points each.
USAO is
at home again on Monday to take on Southwestern Oklahoma in an 8 p.m.
start.
