Drover Rally Falls Short
OKLAHOMA CITY – Senior Avery Stevenson hit his fourth
3-pointer of the night with 11 seconds remaining to pull the Drovers
within three points. But it proved to be too little too late after
trailing by as many as 22 points. No. 2 Oklahoma City answered USAO’s late
charge with two free throws with seven seconds left, and USAO fell on the
road Saturday night 67-62.
USAO fell to 2-12 on the season and 2-5 in the Sooner
Athletic Conference after giving up a 7-0 to start the game. The Drovers
hit their second field goal of the night seven minutes into the game.
OCU fell cold in the second half hitting only 9-of-29 shots
from the floor while Stevenson led a hot-shooting Drover team back into
contention. Stevenson ended up with a season-high 26 points on 8-of-20
shooting while USAO connected on 13-of-26 shots from the floor.
DeAngelo Alexander finished with 13 points and nine
rebounds while Dalane Finley posted his third double-double of the season
coming off the bench for the first time all season with 11 points and 11
rebounds. Kevin Thames came off the bench as well to add 10 points, three
steals and one assist.
OCU still leads the SAC with a 19-0 record overall and 7-0
league mark. USAO falls to eighth overall with a Texas road trip coming up
the weekend. Thursday the Drovers face last place Wayland Baptist, and
Saturday the team will take on Lubbock Christian, which is tied for fifth
place at 10-6 (3-3).
