Pore Scores 20, Drovers Stay Undefeated

CHICKASHA – Senior forward Darren Pore poured in a career-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting to lead the University of Science and Arts to a 92-62 win over Central Baptist College Saturday night inside the USAO Fieldhouse. USAO improved to 4-0 on the season for the first time since the 2002-03 season with undefeated Southwestern Oklahoma coming to town Tuesday beginning at 8 p.m.

After exhibition losses to Northwestern Oklahoma and Oral Roberts, SWOSU began its season with a 75-67 win over No. 1 Oklahoma City and 73-65 a win over Fort Hayes State. The USAO women get things started off Tuesday with a 6 p.m. tipoff against Tabor College.

Saturday, USAO’s high-powered offense was on display with its highest point production of the season. Led by six quick points by Tim Nelson, the Drovers jumped out to a 12-2 lead just four minutes into the game. Pore and Thomas Woods scored 10 first half points to power USAO to a 50-28 halftime lead.

Junior center Eli Flores had his best game in the Drover gold as USAO outscored CBC 54-31 in the paint. Flores had his best scoring performance of the season – in the first half. Flores, the 6-foot-8 Houston native, hit 6-of-8 from the floor for a career-high 14 points. He added four rebounds and four blocked shots.

Tim Nelson, a junior shooting guard, had another great night by hitting 4-of-6 from 3-point land and finished with 16 points. Nelson added three steals and two assists as USAO outscored CBC 22-2 on fast break points.

Woods, the two-time reigning Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week, backed up his 41-point game at Langston on Nov. 8 with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and four rebounds. Woods was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line and added three assists and three steals.

Every Drover who played, scored with freshman Terrance Roby leading the rest with nine points and Duncan native Adam Shoffit scoring seven points. Sophomore point guard Dexter Williams posted a career-high nine rebounds to go along with his five assists and three steals.
