Men Get First Win of
Season
CHICKASHA – The Drovers rebounded from an opening
night loss – and didn’t need much rebounding to do it.
The University of Science and Arts connected on 47
percent from the field and almost 40 percent from three-point land in
Tuesday’s home win over East Central 71-65. USAO struggled in Saturday’s
loss to Southwestern Oklahoma shooting 34 percent form the floor, 27
percent from behind three and barely 50 percent from the free-throw line.
USAO senior J.J. Walsh scored a game-high 20 points
and had eight rebounds in 32 minutes of work as the Drovers out worked and
outshot the taller Tiger front line. Jose Nava controlled the paint with
13 points and 10 boards. The senior also had four assists. Both Walsh and
Nava connected on 60 percent of their shots.
The hottest shooting performance of the night came
from Wayne Walls off the bench. Walls, a senior from Landover, Md., came
in the game and helped the Drovers extend their lead to 13 points in the
first half.
