Men Win Second of the Season

CHICKASHA – Avery Stevenson and Jose Nava put on a show and silenced a ruckus, visiting crowd as the University of Science and Arts shot its way to an 83-70 win over Langston Saturday night at USAO Fieldhouse.

The two combined for 51 points and eight assists helping the Drovers improve to 2-1 on the season. The win was a fond farewell for the team as they take to the road for seven games over the next two months. The next home game for the men will be Jan. 7.

Stevenson’s 24 points – a dozen coming on three-pointers – helped USAO consistently break Langston’s high-pressure defense. Nava, who added 14 rebounds for his third straight double-double to start the season, dished out five assists to go with his 24 points.

As a team, USAO hit 52 percent from the floor including 35 percent from three-point land. Add 71 percent from the charity stripe, and the Drovers literally shot Langston out of the gym.

The men begin their two-month long road trip Thursday in Stephenville, Texas. There, the team will two games at the Tarleton State Classic.
