USAO Splits with John BrownSILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The tables turned for the Drover men Tuesday – in a good way. After out-shooting No. 10 Oklahoma Baptist and No. 4 Southern Nazarene in one-goal losses last week, the University of Science and Arts picked up a one goal win at John Brown, Ark., despite being out-shot 19-12. The 2-1 win was the first of the conference season as the team improved to 8-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Thursday SNU corralled 11 Drover shots to stay undefeated. Tuesday USAO’s Shane Flanagan nabbed a dozen saves as the Drovers broke a two game slide. JBU’s only goal came after Flanagan collided with an opposing player, leaving the goal open. Junior Adam Day scored his 11th goal of the season on an assist from Wesley Costa in the 21st minute. Bello Illiassou rounded out USAO’s scoring with an unassisted goal in the 57th minute. In the early game, the USAO women jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a free kick in the 16th minute, but JBU’s Nikki Ganter answered with three goals in the first half to help the Golden Eagles to a 5-2 win. USAO fell to 7-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the SAC. The women return home for a 2 p.m. kickoff Friday against Northwestern Oklahoma. Both teams will travel to Crowley, Texas, Saturday to face Texas Wesleyan in non-conference action. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. -###- |
