USAO SOCCER REBOUNDS WITH SWEEP McPHERSON, Kan. -- The University of Science and Arts’ soccer teams got back to their winning ways Tuesday night with a two-game sweep on the road of McPherson College. Both teams improved to 2-1 on the season. The women picked up a 7-0 win while the men won 3-1. In the women’s game, USAO jumped on top with goals by Tiffany Treadwell, Stephanie Ginn and Jessie Brown in the first half. The team kept the pressure on in the second half getting off 21 shots on goals, scoring four. Ginn, Tara Wallace (twice) and Treadwell added goals before the final gun. Goalkeeper Katy Swartzendruber stopped six shots to record her first shutout of the season and 15th of her career. The men fell behind 1-0 in the first half, but Adam Day knocked in two second-half penalty kicks to pull out the 3-1 win. Jonathan Oman tied the game at 1-1 early in the second half, and Day gave the Drovers the go-ahead goal just two minutes later. Day’s last goal came in the final minute of the game. The Drovers travel to Wichita, Kan., Saturday for an afternoon doubleheader against Friends University. The men begin at noon, and the women follow at 2 p.m. -###- |
