Hat Trick Leads USAO to Classic Rally

CHICKASHA - Adam Day collected his second hat trick of the season as the University of Science and Arts rallied to beat Oklahoma City 3-2 Friday at Drover Field.

The junior from Kent, England, stole the spotlight on Senior Day by scoring his three goals in the final 11 minutes to lead the Drovers back from a two-goal deficit. USAO’s dramatic win was the team’s third consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference win, moving the team into third place with one game remaining.

OCU (12-4-1, 2-3-1) scored two goals early in the second half to take a commanding 2-0 lead. The Starts looked like they would cruise to win, but the Drovers turned the tables in the 75th minute.

Day donned his Superman cape and scored his first goal at 11:37 left in the game on an assist from Tom Hubbard. A fired up Drover squad tied the game in the eighth minute when Raphael Silvo assisted on Day’s second goal.

The game looked to be heading to overtime inside two minutes when the Drovers got a break. USAO was given a penalty kick with 1:47 left when OCU’s goalkeeper was caught out of the net and the last defender was called for a handball.

Day easily converted the attempt, and the celebration began. The win improves the USAO record to 10-3-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the SAC. In Game One, the USAO women dropped a 4-0 decision to OCU. They fall to 8-8-1 and 2-4-0.

The men and women play out the regular season schedule at St. Gregory’s on Tuesday. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
