Men Fall Short Against No. 4 SNU

BETHANY – For the second time this week the University of Science and Arts came up one goal short against a top-10 team. Thursday the men’s soccer team lost at No. 4 Southern Nazarene 1-0. Tuesday No. 10 Oklahoma Baptist escaped Drover Field with a 2-1 overtime win – the first USAO loss since Sept. 1.

USAO (7-3, 0-2) got off 22 shots, but SNU goalkeeper David Eguren stopped 11 shots as the home team fended off the upset-minded Drovers. Conversely, SNU’s score was one of only five shots on goal.

The winning goal was scored in the 20th minute by SNU’s Damian Gunaratne on an assist from Harouna Pare. With the win, the SNU improved to 9-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

The Drovers will try to rebound Tuesday against John Brown. The doubleheader in Siloam Springs, Ark., will begin at 1 p.m.
