USAO Blanks OBUSHAWNEE – Wesley Costa netted his fifth goal of the season while goalkeeper Shane Flanagan posted his sixth shutout Tuesday afternoon as the University of Science and Arts beat No. 14 Oklahoma Baptist 1-0 on the road. USAO, ranked No. 7 nationally, struggled to a 1-1-1 record in its last three games – all against nationally ranked conference teams. Tuesday, the Drover defense stood tall throughout the game protecting its first half lead. Costa, a sophomore from Brazil, scored the game’s only goal in the 33rd minute. Tommy Hubbard, a senior from Oklahoma City, collected his second assist on the year to go along with his eight goals. Flanagan, a sophomore from Dublin, Ireland, turned away seven OBU shots and notched another shutout moving him one away from the school record for shutouts in a season. Assistant coach Alexis Vizarelis and student assistant Elliott Ballmann are tied for first with seven each. OBU had its chances to upset the higher-ranked Drovers. The Bison out-shot USAO 20-11 overall and had two more shots on goal. OBU was also called offsides (having an unfair advantage in its offensive half) seven times. USAO was called offsides only once. The Drovers (8-1-2, 3-1-2) get a week off before hosting John Brown at 3 p.m. Oct. 13. John Brown (3-5-2, 0-4-1) celebrated a 0-0 tie in the team’s first meeting this season. ### |
