USAO Storms Past OBUCHICKASHA – Forward Terry Adamson scored two goals and Tommy Hubbard netted another as the 19th-ranked University of Science and Arts pulled away from Oklahoma Baptist 3-1 in Tuesday’s regular season finale at Drover Field. The win secures a second place finish in the Sooner Athletic Conference and an overall record of 12-2-3. The Drovers roll into the NAIA Region VI tournament for the second year in a row on a winning streak. USAO hosts a first-round game at 1 p.m. Saturday. The opponent, Texas Wesleyan or the College of the Southwest of Red River Athletic Conference, was not known at press time. Hubbard zig-zagged his way through the Bison defense for the game’s first goal in the 67th minute and his team-leading 13th goal of the season. OBU’s Artur Oliveira tied the game in the 73rd minute breaking a 273-minute scoreless streak posted by sophomore goalkeeper Shane Flanagan and the Drover defense. After several “near-misses” from almost every player on the Drover roster, Hubbard found Adamson for USAO’s go-ahead goal in the 84th minute. Adamson added an insurance goal in the 88th minute securing the win. Looking back, the 2006 Drovers had a decent impact on the record books. Senior forward NeNe Coulibally’s nine goals moved him into second place in school history with 38 career goals. Senior midfielder Adam Day ranks first with 44 career assists and fourth with 32 career goals. Hubbard ranks fifth with 31 career goals after Tuesday, and Flanagan set a new school record with eight shutouts this season. As a team, USAO’s two losses this season ranks as the fewest in school history. The team posted the second most shutouts is school history – just two behind the 2003 team. The Drovers scored 56 goals with 41 assists, which ranks second in school history in both categories. And maybe most importantly, the 2006 team only allowed 13 goals all season and a goals against average of 0.76. Both shatter the old records set last season of 17 goals and 1.02 goals allowed per game. ### |
