USAO’s Hubbard Named Player of the Week
Tommy Hubbard, a senior forward from Oklahoma City, scored his first career hat trick in the University of Science and Arts’ 3-1 win at St. Gregory’s last Thursday, and he was rewarded with the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week award as well as the NAIA Region VI Player of the Week award. Hubbard, who finished last season with eight goals, already has seven goals this year thanks in large part to his three goals at SGU. Head coach Jimmy Hampton has said Hubbard is “the one player I wouldn’t want to go into a game without,” at the forward position. In USAO’s first non-win of the season came Saturday at John Brown. The 0-0 tie moved the Drovers to 6-0-1, 1-0-1. Hubbard wasn’t able to finish the game due to an injury that wasn’t described as severe, and he is expected to play in the team’s next game. “I don’t think they (JBU) could have kept Tommy out of the net the whole game, if he had been able to play,” Hampton said in this week’s edition of “In the Saddle with Drover Sports” which will air at 10:30 a.m. on KOOL 105.5 FM and at noon, 6 p.m. and midnight on USAO’s channel 18. USAO, currently ranked No. 15 in the country, will host Oklahoma Christian Saturday on the campus of USAO beginning at 2 p.m. ### |
