Drovers Advance into Semis

CHICKASHA – With three goals in the first half and four in the game the 17th-ranked University of Science and Arts strolled through its first game of the NAIA Region VI Tournament at Drover Field Saturday afternoon.

The 4-0 win over Huston-Tillotson College was the Drovers’ fourth shutout in five games as the team took its first step toward the end goal of qualifying for the national tournament. USAO advances into the regional semifinals which will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oklahoma Christian.

Saturday, the Drovers used a strong tailwind to jump on the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament champs. Pinny Nijjar scored the first goal of the game in the 15th minute. In the 16th minute, Jonathan Oman scored to put USAO up 2-0. And Adam Day added to his career assist record with one to Terry Adamson, who scored the third goal of the day in the 30th minute.

In the second half, USAO defense held up against a desperate HTC attack only giving up on shot on goal – which, of course, was saved by goalkeeper Shane Flanagan. Adamson connected with Scott Malek for USAO’s final goal of the afternoon.

The Drovers split the season series with Oklahoma Christian (11-3-2). USAO (13-2-3) beat the Eagles 4-2 at home on Sept. 23. OC won its home match against the Drovers 2-0.
