Men Win in OT

SHAWNEE – Nikola Cakarevic hasn’t been asked to score very often this season. USAO’s assist leader connected on his second goal of the season and the game-winner just two minutes in overtime Friday as the University of Science and Arts rallied to beat Oklahoma Baptist 2-1.

The USAO men improved to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the league as the team prepares for its regular season finale Tuesday at Oklahoma City. The winner will secure fourth place in the league and host the loser (the No. 5 seed) in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament beginning Friday. USAO is the three-time defending SAC Tournament champions.

Friday, OBU’s Tiago Santos scored in the 12th minute to give the Bison a 1-0 lead, but Terry Adamson scored his sixth goal of the season just before halftime to tie the score at 1-1. Cakarevic, a freshman from Serbia, ended the game early in overtime as the Drovers collected their third straight win – two of those coming in overtime.

The USAO women played tough but lost 1-0 to the Lady Bison on Friday. Sophomore goalkeeper Destiny Rachal collected seven saves, but OBU’s Marinne Burnham slipped on past her in the 40th minute for the game winner.

The Drovers fell to 5-8-1 overall and 2-6 in the SAC with the finale at OCU beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The women have secured a spot in the postseason but will have to travel to No. 25 John Brown Saturday.
