CLAREMORE – The conference season continued to be a struggle for the University of Science and Arts’ soccer teams as the men and the women fell to Rogers State Tuesday evening by a score a 3-0 in each game. The losses dropped both teams to 0-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play after two losses on Friday to Southern Nazarene.
The USAO men fell to 4-5 on the season after suffering its third loss of the season while out-shooting its opponents. The numbers from Tuesday were staggeringly one-sided. USAO posted 23 total shots to RSU’s seven. USAO had 10 corner kicks to RSU’s four, and USAO finished with 12 shots on goal to RSU’s three.
The final score is the only thing that counts, though, and RSU made good on all three shots on goal in the first half. Continuing a disturbing trend, the Drovers also suffered a 1-0 loss to McPherson College on Sept. 4 while posting 27 shots and lost 3-1 to Missouri Valley College on Sept. 13 while posting 15 shots on goal.
In the women’s game, RSU’s Robin Sutherland scored three goals on four shots on goal as USAO fell behind 1-0 in the first half and gave up two more goals in the second half.
The USAO men return home Friday afternoon for a non-conference showdown with Huston-Tillotson College beginning at 1 p.m. The two teams met at Drover Field last season in the first round of the regional tournament with USAO collecting a 4-0 decision.
Both teams are back in action on Oct. 2 as St. Gregory’s visits Drover Field beginning at 1 p.m. The women host Wayland Baptist at 2 p.m. Oct. 5.
