
BRINGER, Ruth Allene Bringer
Ruth Allene Walker Bringer, 69, of Argonia,
died Saturday June 24, 2006, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. She was
born the daughter of Silas Duncan and Iva Ellen (Birge) Walker on May 6, 1937,
in Kiowa County, Okla. Funeral services for Ruth will be 5 p.m., Wednesday, June
28, 2006, at the Argonia Friends Church, in Argonia. Rev. Mike Neifert, Rev.
Clarence Lanier, and Rev. Ron Weller will officiate. Interment will be in the
Argonia Cemetery. Friends may call at the Day Funeral Home of Argonia, from 9
a.m. to 9 p.m., on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, and from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on
Wednesday, June 28, 2006.
She grew up on the family farm south of
Mountain View, Okla. She became a born-again Christian at a young age and
remained a faithful Christian throughout her life. Ruth was a member of the
Argonia Wesleyan Church. Ruth attended Sedan, Okla. schools graduating in 1955,
where she had been active in sports and other school activities. After
graduating from high school she attended Oklahoma College for Women at
Chickasha, Okla., graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Business Education. Ruth then began her teaching career in Argonia in the fall
of 1959. While teaching, Ruth pioneered women's sports by establishing the first
Argonia girl's high school volleyball and basketball teams. Ruth retired in
1995, with 36 years of service to the Argonia school district.
On May 27, 1961, she and Burke LaMoine
Bringer were united in marriage in Wichita. To this union three children were
born, two sons and a daughter. Ruth helped her husband farm and was an active
4-H leader for over 15 years in Harper County. She received numerous awards for
her years of service to the 4-H Club from the Harper County 4-H Council. After
retirement she worked for two years at Botkin Grain in Argonia as bookkeeper.
Ruth later worked for the City of Argonia keeping books until her accident in
2000.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years,
Burke, of the home; sons Burke A. Bringer of Mulvane, Jody and his wife, Laura
Bringer, of Argonia; daughter Jenni Carr and her husband, Casey, of Atlanta,
Kan.; eight grandchildren; sisters Susie Huston and her husband, Herbert, of
Choctaw, Okla., Louise Robinson and her husband, Jim, of Oklahoma City;
sister-in-laws Betty Walker of Oklahoma City, Barbara Pearce and her husband,
Denzel, of Wichita; many nieces and nephews; former students and numerous
friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, Elmer and June
Bringer-Harper, one brother Roy Lee Walker and one nephew. Memorials have been
established in her name and loving memory with the Argonia EMT'S, Argonia Fire
Department and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may mailed or left at
