Judy Dunbridge
Judy Dunbridge of Claremont died October 2, 2004, at her home surrounded by
family and friends after a lengthy battle with breast cancer.
She was born July 26 1944 in Chickasha,
Oklahoma to Maxine and J.R. Jobe. At the time of her birth, Judy's father was
serving in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps outside London, England. He
didn't get to see her until she was 13 months old. She was a member of the Monte
Vista Unitarian Universalist Congregation. She graduated from Chickasha High
School in 1962 where she was president of her senior class and a member of the
National Honor Society. She graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in 1965
with a degree in English and a teaching credential and then received a Master's
Degree in Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1971.
In her first job,
Judy was the receptionist for Oklahoma Congressman, Jed Johnson Jr., in
Washington, D.C. Judy had campaigned for Johnson, who at the time was the
youngest person elected to Congress. She held teaching positions in Chickasha,
Oklahoma, in South Carolina, in Hawaii, and in Norman, Oklahoma before coming to
California in 1974. Judy served as a substitute teacher at Walnut High School in
Walnut, California where she met Bruce Dunbridge. She taught English at Walnut
High School from 1975-1983 and taught English at Diamond Bar High School in
Diamond Bar, California from 1983 to 2004. She married to Bruce Dunbridge in
1977 and has two children, Phillip, 25, and Megan, 21, who are both attending
graduate school. Judy's life passions were her family, her friends, the many
students whose lives she touched through her teaching and her beloved Oklahoma
Sooners.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Dunbridge; son, Phillip Dunbridge;
daughter, Megan Dunbridge; sister, Carol Bednar. Memorial service will be held
at4:30 p.m., Thursday, October 7, at the Claremont United Church of Christ
Congregational, 233 Harrison Ave., Claremont, CA. The family requests donation
