
DAVIS, Vivian Mae Davis
Vivian Mae Saunkeah Davis, known to those that knew and loved her as Bea and
Mamacita, died August 22, 2006. She was born February 19, 1921, near Anadarko,
Oklahoma, and lived there until moving to Oklahoma City in 1932 with her family.
She was a graduate of the Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha and the
University of Oklahoma, being honored as the first Kiowa woman to graduate from OU. On February 1, 1944, she married Jesse E. Davis, II, her husband of 33
years. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1977. Mrs. Davis worked at the
University of Oklahoma's Zoology Department while a student and then as an
executive secretary for Hughes Tool Company of Oklahoma City for 34 years. She
was a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma and was a long time member of the
University of Oklahoma Alumni Association, American Indian Alumni Society and
the Desk and Derrick Club.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents,
Jasper and Anna Poolaw Saunkeah; her husband, Jesse Edwin Davis, II; and, son,
Jesse Edwin Davis, III. She is survived by her brother, E. T. 'Bud' Saunkeah,
and sister-in-law, Rosemary; her brother, Jasper Saunkeah, Jr., all of Oklahoma
City; daughter-in-law, Kelly Davis, Los Angeles, California; and many loving
nephews, nieces and friends. Mamacita will be forever loved and missed.
Many
thanks to the wonderful staff at Bellevue Health & Rehabilitation Center for
enriching her life by providing loving care during these last few years.
Visitation will be Friday, 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Smith & Kernke. A Celebration
for the Life of Vivian Saunkeah Davis will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday,
August 26, 2006 at Smith & Kernke, 1401 N.W. 23rd, Oklahoma City. Reverend
Jasper Saunkeah and Bruce Saunkeah will officiate. Committal will follow at
