EARLY, Doris S. Early

        A memorial service for Doris Shipley Early, Amber, Ok, will be Saturday, Feb.18, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pocasset United Methodist Church, Ok. , Pocasset Mrs. Early died Tuesday, February 7, 2006, in a Chickasha care center.
        She was born Oct. 30, 1909, near Pocasset, OK, to Guy and Ida Shipley. She was raised in the Pocasset-Amber area and graduated from Amber High School in 1926. In 1930 she earned a degree in Food and Nutrition from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha.
        She worked for Southwestern Power and Light until her marriage to Raymond John Early Oct. 22,1939, in Chickasha. He died Dec. 30, 1975. During their marriage they operated a dairy, farmed and did wallpapering and carpentry. She was a member of the Pocasset United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there and at the Union Church in Amber. She tutored students in reading, sometimes as a second language, at the Chickasha Library for many years.
        She was a 60+year member of the Friend Home Extension Club of what is now HCE, Home and Community Education. She was an active member, participating in the Grady County Fair and other club projects. She could always be counted on to give a well researched, interesting lesson presentation. For the last 3 years she was a resident at the Glenhaven Assisted Living Center in Chickasha.
        She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Maureen Early, Edmond, OK; and Paul and Ginger Early of Muskogee; five grandchildren, J.W. Early, Erin Early and Amanda Early, Stillwater; Megan Early, Muskogee; Melissa Early, McAlester, OK; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two brothers, Grant Shipley and Virgil Shipley; two sisters, Jean Ewing and Helen Reding; and by a son, Alan and a daughter-in-law, Ann Early.
