
FRANKLIN, Mary J.
Mary Jo Franklin, the only child of Laura Tucker Franklin and
Moody D. Franklin, was born in Addington, Oklahoma, February 10, 1917. She died
June 27, 2005 in Oklahoma City, OK.
Mary Jo graduated from the Addington School, attended Oklahoma
College for Women, Chickasha, OK. In 1938, a basic training Nursing diploma was
received from the Chickasha Hospital and Training School.
She joined the Army of U.S. Nurse Corp in 1944, having duty
stations at Fort Sill Army Hospital in OK., Camp Swift, Texas, and at Clark
Field in the Philippines, and discharged to the Army Nurse Reserve. A Bachelor
of Science was earned in Nursing from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in
1949.
Mary Jo was recalled to duty during the Korean conflict and was
assigned to Fort Sill, followed by the 247th General Hospital in Munich,
Germany. She was discharged with the rank of Captain. Her nursing career
continued at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Oklahoma City, from 1953 to
1977. Many Tucker and Franklin cousins survive her as well as her extended
family, the McMillans. Viewing will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4
p.m. Family members will be present. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m.,
Friday, July 1, 2005 at Lakeside United Methodist Church with interment
following in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. Any memoriam should be directed to
