Florine Estelle Brooks, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012.

Service: 1 p.m. Monday at Western Hills United Methodist Church, 2820 Laredo Drive, Fort Worth 76116. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park.

 

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Land Funeral Home.

 

Memorials: May be made to Western Hills United Methodist Church.

 

Florine was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Oklahoma City to Elmer and Della Dougan. She graduated from Chickasha's Oklahoma College for Women in 1955 with a degree in education with a minor in music. She was a lifetime member of the international music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota; and she also served as president of the Methodist Student Movement of the state of Oklahoma in 1954.

 

Florine married Donald Lee Brooks on June 10, 1955. They moved to Fort Worth in 1956. She taught piano lessons and worked as a substitute teacher. She was a longtime member of Western Hills United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women. One of the ways she served others was by playing the piano at nursing homes. Florine had a gift for remembering peoples' names. She loved nature, music and flowers, especially those grown by her husband, Donald. She was preceded in death by son, Donnie Wayne Brooks. 

 

Survivors: Loving husband of 57 years, Donald Lee Brooks of Fort Worth; son, Michael Brooks and wife, Maria, of New Braunfels; daughter, Jean Kinney of Bedford; daughter, Shelly Brooks of Waco; grandson, Joshua Kinney of Austin; and many friends and other extended family
