ELSEA, Eloise L. (Freeman)

Eloise Leora Elsea, 88, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012, in Oklahoma City. Eloise was born on April 20, 1924, in Mangum, Oklahoma, to Alfred and Leora Freeman and was youngest of nine children.

It was during her years growing up in Mangum during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl that she would meet the love of her life, O.C. "Buck" Elsea, Jr., while in grade school.

Eloise's college career at the Oklahoma Women’s College in Chickasha was interrupted by the start of WWII.

She obtained a job as secretary in Oklahoma City for Judge Jarman and later in Washington, D.C., for Rep. Jarman, where Buck was stationed for the Navy. Eloise and Buck returned to Norman after the war and were joined in marriage on January 23, 1949, in Mangum.

They started their family while Buck completed his Ph.D. When their children were almost grown, Eloise returned to work at Norman High School and later the State Legislature.

She always managed to find time for her family and friends. Eloise and Buck celebrated over 60 years of a wonderful marriage! They were only separated with Buck's passing on November 13, 2010.Eloise is much loved and will be greatly missed by her family: daughter, Devon Wiggins and husband Bill; son, Mark Elsea and wife Janet Jones; and son, John Elsea and wife Hyunyi; as well as her beloved grandchildren, John and Michelle Wiggins, Nicholas and Natalie Elsea, and Bianca and Savanna Elsea.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, in the Chapel of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman".
