Betty Lou Smiley, 75, of Tulsa, passed away, Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Betty was born January 28, 1938 in Lindsay, OK, daughter of the late George Clyde and Hattie Elizabeth (Anderson) Ridings. She majored in music at the Oklahoma College for Women. She was a member of Kirk of the Hills Church, active in the church choir and a longtime member of Tulsa Symphonia Chorus.
Helen (Marmion) Cosper was born March 14, 1921 in Paris, France of French parents. Helen was the only child of the Marmions. Her mother was an actress and opera singer. Her father was an artist-designer. The Marmions came to the U.S.A. via Canada before she was three years of age. They settled down near Chicago.
Benne Bernice Alder Sept. 22, 1928 û Jan. 9, 2014 Long time Davis resident, Benne Bernice (Daniel) Alder, passed peacefully on Jan. 9, 2014. Born in Oklahoma to John and Vivian Daniel, she graduated in 1946 from Classen High School in Oklahoma, received a bachelor's degree in rhetoric from Oklahoma College of Women, a master's degree in theatre from University of Michigan, and a Ph.D.
Reba Merle Goldsmith Hendricks, longtime resident of the area and daughter of one of the pio-neer families, died Sun-day, December 29, 2013, at Ardmore, at the age of 89. The family will be having a private service at a later date. Reba was born in Dim-mit, Texas, on October 16, 1924. She lived in Okla-homa, Kansas and Texas, and made her home in the Ardmore area the last sev-eral decades.
Orpha Loewen Powell, 97, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Orpha Loewen Powell, who was the fourth of five children, was born to John and Amelia Goerke Loewen in Hitchcock on Aug. 31, 1916.

Burial will follow at Celestial Gardens, Cyril, under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home. Charlotte went to her heavenly home Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m.
Funeral services for Gloria June Fuller, 82, of Purcell were held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Union Hill Baptist Church in Purcell. Services were under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell. Mrs. Fuller went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, December 10, 2013 in Purcell.
Jean Ann Bassett Jean Ann McKee Bassett, 77 of Anadarko, Oklahoma was called home by the Lord on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born November 13,1936 to David and Marie (Booker) Cowan in Altus, Oklahoma. She was as graduate of Chickasha High School with the class of 1954. She also attended OCW in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Presiding over one of the most innovative and tumultuous periods in university history, Dr. Robert Martin shepherded the establishment of many of the institutions that make the University of Science and Arts what it is today in his four-year tenure as president. Martin died May 27 at his home in Norman. He was 85.
Ted Diaconoff, age 84 of Chickasha, was born the son of Andre Diaconoff and Evelyn Hotson Diaconoff on Oct. 7, 1928, in Akron, Ohio. He died on May 19, 2013 in Chickasha. After receiving his masters degree, Ted continued his education and received his Phd at UCLA. He also attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City where he studied piano and composition and was a faculty assistant. He later held teaching positions at universities in Michigan, Kentucky, then at USAO in Chickasha where he was a professor of music. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty.
