USAO Invites Public to Spring 2008 Germany, Alps Tour
CHICKASHA – Students, faculty and alumni are heading for the hills next spring when the University of Science and Arts leads its annual European trip to Germany and the Swiss Alps. The trip is open to the public and an informational meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in Davis Hall 124.
Tour leader Dr. Stephen Weber, associate professor of music, said the EF Educational Tours package promises an exciting and interesting tour.
“The tour company has packaged a tour during the Independent Study session which includes a wonderful mix of historic and cultural sites, as well as opportunities to enjoy the scenic beauty of Germany and the Alps,” he said.
Highlights of the May 12-20, 2008 tour include Germany’s Romantic Road, the medieval town of Rothenberg, two days in Munich, a visit to the famous Neuschwanstein Castle and a drive through Liechtenstein en route to Lucerne.
“The Munich stay includes a walking tour of downtown and driving tours of the surrounding area,” said Weber, “including a visit to Dachau Memorial, a World War II concentration camp liberated by Oklahoma’s own 45th Infantry Division at the end of the war.”
The tour continues with travels through the Rhine River region and Heidelberg before returning to Frankfurt for final departure.
Tour enrollees may also participate in optional excursions to Salzburg, Austria, home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the filming of “The Sound of Music,” and a gondola ride to the top of Mount Pilatus near Lucerne. In addition, tour participants may opt to add a two-day extension, which includes a Rhine River cruise and stops in Cologne and Bonn, birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven.
The tour departs from Oklahoma City, though participants enrolled in the tour may choose to depart from any major United States airport.
Cost for the trip is $2009 for students and $2294 for others. This includes round trip airfare, hotel accommodations, two meals a day, bilingual tour guides, guided and walking tours and all entrance fees to sites included in the package.
Additional fees will be charged for the optional excursions and the two-day extension.
The tour is open for enrollment through Jan. 1, 2008; a $95 enrollment fee will secure registration for the spring trip.
Students are housed three or four to a room. Adults are housed two to a room. Travel insurance may be purchased directly through EF Educational Tours. Though the tour is offered through USAO it is open to non-students and members of the community.
Trip itineraries and more information about the trip are available from Stephen Weber by phone at (405) 574-1295 or by email at facwebers@usao.edu. EF Tours information is available online at www.eftours.com.
