Wednesday, August 3, 2005

USAO Regent Gretchen Roddy is scheduled to address 43 graduates and their families on Aug. 5 during summer commencement ceremonies at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The ceremony begins at 8 p.m. inside Troutt Hall Auditorium, and will be broadcast live on USAO Channel 18.

Roddy is the newly elected chair of the USAO Board of Regents, which governs Oklahoma’s public liberal arts college. She was appointed to the board in 2001 by Gov. Frank Keating.

Roddy is liberally educated and experienced: a busy mother, professional photographer and attorney specializing in corporate law.

She earned her juris doctorate degree in 1992 from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. She earned membership on the Dean’s Honor Roll, in Phi Delta Phi, and the American Indian Law Review. She also served as a competitor and judge in the Board of Advocates Moot Court Competition.

She has been a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association since 1992, practicing law privately in Norman, Chickasha and Oklahoma City.

Her undergraduate degree is in photography, also from OU. She graduated with distinction in 1984 on the President’s Honor Roll.

Roddy studied the German language and sharpened her skills by spending a year in Hamburg through Youth with Understanding in 1979-80.

She and her husband, Craig, a patent attorney with Halliburton, live in Duncan with their two sons. The Roddys stay busy with civic and charitable causes.
