Scholarships Available for Artscope Summer Camp
Artscope – Chickasha’s creative summer camp for children – is quickly approaching. A unique summer arts day camp for children ages 8-12, Artscope will be held on the University of Science and Arts campus June 12-23.
Tuition is $150 per child, and a limited number of spaces and scholarships are still available and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The original scholarship deadline of April 30 has been extended until all scholarships have been given out.
Summer art scholarship funds are provided by the Oklahoma Arts Council. Students must be eligible to receive free or reduced-fee lunches at school and agree to attend camp every day, Monday through Friday, in order to receive scholarships. Other scholarships also are available through the Junior Social Workers of Chickasha for students who do not qualify for the school lunch program but who might have difficulty attending camp without assistance.
Artscope enables children to experience the arts from real artists and have fun while learning how artists think and create. Day campers study a combination of drawing, painting, sculpting, theatre, dance or music. Guest artists also present special exhibitions during the camp.
Camp instructors have extensive experience as both teachers and performing artists. Julie Bohannon and Marcus Bilyeu teach theatre, and Patricia Herrera and Olivia Lopez teach Visual Arts. Mona Greenfield teaches musical theatre for the first time this year.
Now in its eighth year, Artscope is a non-profit program of the Chickasha Area Arts Council and the Children’s Arts Network. It is a branch of Artworks, a six-week, full day program in its seventeenth year in Oklahoma City.
