Student Spring Art Show on Display Through April 18 at USAO
CHICKASHA – Art students have selected several pieces for display in the Student Spring Art Show at the University of Science and Arts. The exhibit, which runs through April 18, is the final student art show for the spring semester.
With paintings, sculptures, drawings, photography and more, the Third Floor Art Gallery exhibit demonstrates art students’ achievements from the past school year. Many pieces are for sale.
“This year’s show is larger than last year with about 20 percent more entries,” said Angus Kent Lamar, professor of art. “There is a nice variety of media and students are showing initiative in producing work outside the classroom.”
Open to all art students and any medium, the art faculty honored nine select students with Judges Choice Awards.
“Their work truly stood out from the rest in terms of quality, presentation, but most importantly, design,” Lamar said. “Their overall studio performance was also a final factor in the selection of awards.”
Students selected for the Judges Choice Awards include Chickasha senior Amy Widener, Lexington freshman Robert Cole, Duncan senior Justin Riddles, Oklahoma City senior Chelsea McClanahan, Washington sophomore Katy Ratliff, Oklahoma City junior Jeremy Teel, Woodward senior Chris Castor, Norman post bachelor’s Angela Laird and Ponca City senior Erin Smith.
Jacquelyn Knapp, assistant professor of art, said the exhibit gives student artists an opportunity to react with the public.
“It is a great chance for the students to publicly show their art and receive feedback from the viewer,” said Knapp.
The free exhibit runs through April 18 and is open to the public. The Third Floor Art Gallery is located in Davis Hall and is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
