Drovers Start Season 2-0SAN ANGELO, Texas – Dana Askins and Jessica Darling combined for five runs scored, seven hits and seven RBIs as the University of Science and Arts began the 2006 season with wins over Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon in the Angelo State Classic. USAO fell behind early in both games, but came back with a four-run sixth to beat ENMU 10-6 and a four-run fifth inning to beat WTAMU 8-6. The wins give first-year head coach Taralee Pringle a 2-0 start. In the first game against ENMU, the Drovers found themselves tied 4-4 in the fifth inning when the Lady Zias scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning. USAO answered with the explosive, four-run sixth inning build an 8-4 cushion. Both teams scored two runs in the final frame. Askins earned her first win of the season allowing four earned runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts. Against WTAMU, Darling pounded out offensive production with two runs and three RBIs off two hits. USAO fell behind 3-2 after two innings and 5-4 after 5 1/2 innings. The team responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and held the Lady Buffs to one run over their final two at bats. Kindra Gregory earned her first win of the season allowing four earned runs on eight hits and striking out eight batters. After concluding tournament play in the Angelo State Classic on Sunday, the team is off until Feb. 20 when they travel to Weatherford to play Southwestern Oklahoma at 1 p.m. ### |
