Gregory Named Pitcher of the Week

SHAWNEE – Senior pitcher Kindra Gregory pitched her way to the Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week award as the University of Science and Arts steamrolled its way to four straight wins last week.

The Lexington native collected two shutout wins over conference opponents Oklahoma Christian and Southern Nazarene to help USAO, the No. 8 team in the country, post a 12-3 record overall and a 4-0 record in SAC play.

Gregory struck out eight batters while only giving up five hits and one walk in an 8-0 win at OC Friday. She backed that up with six strikeouts in a 2-0 decision over SNU at home the following day. With the recent wins, she improved to 6-1 on the season with a 1.57 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 53.2 innings pitched.

Gregory and the Drovers prepare for the national stage this weekend. The team will travel to LaGrange, Ga., for a weekend appearance in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic.

The tournament starts Friday with a 10 a.m. game against Tiffin University. USAO continues play at 4 p.m. versus William Woods University and 6 p.m. versus William Penn University.
