Beaty's Bomb Lifts Drovers ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - A three-run home run by Leslie Beaty in the sixth inning propelled USAO to a 4-2 win over Spring Hill College Saturday morning in the final game of pool play of the Gulf Coast Invitational. Down 1-0 in the sixth, three straight base hits loaded the bases. Morgan Thompson drove in a run, but Beaty's homer turned the tide in USAO's favor. SHC scored in the seventh to make the final 4-2. The 18th-ranked Drovers are 8-4 overall and pushing to be in the top-10 after four straight wins on a national stage. USAO has ripped off wins over No. 19 Reinhardt University, No. 2 and defending national champion Univ. of Mobile, Rogers State and co-host Spring Hill College. USAO moves on to tournament play, effectively the No. 1 seed in the tournament after beating top-seeded Mobile. The Drovers are scheduled to play at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The full bracket is not available at this time, but according to the Mobile website, USAO will be matched up against the No. 2 seed of Pool 1. Thomas University and No. 8 Lee University played at 9 a.m. for the No. 2 seed. The final score is not available at this time. Check back with the USAO website for tournament scores as they become available. USAO is one of four teams from the Sooner Athletic Conference to be invited to the tournament. Other SAC schools include Oklahoma City University, St. Gregory’s and Rogers State, which is in a one-year probationary period after joining the SAC. ### |
