Drovers Rally Past Lady Eagles CHICKASHA – Sheena Rauniker’s walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh scored Leslie Beaty from second base and completed USAO’s six-run rally and two-game sweep of Oklahoma Christian Saturday afternoon at Bill Smith Ballpark. The University of Science and Arts erased a 6-0 first-inning deficit to win game two 8-7 after winning game one 3-2. The Drovers improved to 25-15 overall and now rank third in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a record of 9-9. After giving up four earned runs to the first four batters in the first inning, Chancie Godwin was called out of the bullpen for just her 10th appearance of the season. The freshman from Del City gave up just four hits and helped USAO turn the tide. Amy Renault had the biggest impact at the plate for the Drovers going 4-for-4 in game two with three runs scored and three RBIs. Renault also hit her first home run in a Drover uniform in the fifth inning to pull USAO within a run, 7-6. Renault doubled in Kelsey MacInnes in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 6-1. USAO cut the lead in half when Beaty and Rauniker scored on a wild pitch and an error in the second inning. After her second double of the game, Renault scored on a sacrifice fly by Hillary Brown in the third to answer OC’s run in the top half and make the score 7-4. Renault’s big-fly drove in two runs and brought USAO within a run in the fifth inning, and in the seventh Beaty’s two-out single scored Renault to tie the score. Rauniker finished off the game with a base hit to right field that scored Beaty. Game one was less dramatic as junior pitcher Marina Poddubskaya held OC scoreless over the final four innings to collect her 17th win of the season. She gave up just five hits and one earned run while striking out four batters. All of USAO’s offense came in the first inning. Hillary Brown doubled in Jennifer Bridgforth and Renault to give the Drovers a 2-0 lead. Beaty drove in Brown with a double to left center on the next at bat to make the lead 3-0. USAO travels to Hall of Fame Stadium for a Tuesday doubleheader against No. 2 Oklahoma City beginning at 5 p.m. and then will finish up the regular season with two home doubleheaders on Thursday and Monday. ### |
