Hillcats Sweep Drovers
CHICKASHA – Leslie Beaty had a career day at the plate, but the University of Science and Arts could not score enough to upend No. 10 Rogers State in Wednesday’s doubleheader at Bill Smith Ballpark. RSU improved to 21-3 overall with a 4-0 win in game one and 6-3 win in game two. USAO fell to 15-12-1 overall with a Thursday home doubleheader upcoming against Hillsdale College.
In game two, Beaty ripped three doubles and a solo home run in a career-best 4-for-4 performance with two runs scored and an RBI. Kelsey MacInnes scored USAO’s other run as senior outfielder finished 2-for-3 at the plate. The pair combined for six of USAO’s seven hits.
RSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but USAO answered in the bottom of the first. Beaty led off the bottom half with a double down the left field line. Michelle Bauer followed with a triple to right field, which scored Beaty.
The Hillcats scored two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to take a commanding 6-1 lead. MacInnes led the bottom of the fifth off with a single up the middle, and she moved to third on Beaty’s third double of the game. MacInnes later scored on a wild pitch. Beaty capped her career-day with a solo homer in the seventh to make the final score 6-3.###
