Drovers Split with NWOSU

CHICKASHA – With six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the University of Science and Arts rallied past Northwestern Oklahoma in game one of Friday’s doubleheader 15-9. The Drovers’ game-two rally came up just short as USAO dropped the finale 6-4.

Down 3-0 in the third in game one, Sheena Raunikar, Cattlyn Crotty and Hillary Brown drove in runs to tie the score. The Rangers added a run in the forth, but USAO answered with four runs including a two-run home run by Raunikar in the bottom half to take a 7-4 lead.

With two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth, NWOSU ran out to another lead of 9-7. Michelle Bauer and Amy Renault drove in two runs each as USAO scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach and improve to fifth in the league standings.

The Drovers ran out of magic in game two. USAO rallied from five runs down with four runs in the sixth and had the bases loaded, but Jennifer Bridgforth’s hard grounder was fielded cleanly by the NWOSU second baseman and putout. NWOSU added an insurance run on a throwing error in the top of the seventh.

The split moved USAO to 18-17-1 on the season and 8-8 in the conference one game ahead of NWOSU. The Drovers host No. 3 Lubbock Christian at noon Saturday on Senior Day.
