Softball Team Splits Series with OC
CHICKASHA – Behind timely home runs from Leslie Beaty, Cattlyn Crotty and Sarah Jamison, the University of Science and Arts’ softball team took game one of Saturday’s home doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian 4-3. OC outlasted the Drovers 8-1 in game two to split the season series at 2-2.
Game one started out with a bang thanks to Beaty. The junior leadoff batter blasted a 3-2 pitch over the left field fence to give USAO a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Senior Jennifer Bridgforth earned a walk, and Crotty stepped up and blasted a two-run homer of her own to give USAO a 3-0 lead after one.
OC responded with solo home runs in the second and fourth innings to cut the lead to 3-2. Junior third baseman Sarah Jamison led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run and what proved to be the game-winner.
Junior pitcher Kim Alford collected the complete-game win allowing only three earned runs and pitching her way out of bases-loaded jams in the sixth and seventh innings.
The OC bats were hot in game two as the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 5-1 lead and cruised to the 8-1 final.
With the split, USAO moves to 16-14-1 overall and 5-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. Currently the team sits in sixth place just behind 5-3 Oklahoma Baptist. The Drovers will face conference newcomer Mid-America beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday and St. Gregory’s Wednesday.
