Drovers Land First-Ever ESPN Academic All-American

Courtney FoleyCHICKASHA - There is more to being an athlete at the University of Science and Arts than helping your team to a 41-21 record and a third straight national tournament.

Three of this year’s softball players, again, garnered national recognition for their work inside the classroom – one was honored by the most prestigious sports entity in the world.

Outfielder Courtney Foley was one of seven NAIA softball players honored by ESPN the Magazine for her outstanding efforts as a student-athlete. The senior from Piedmont finished her college career with a perfect 4.0 GPA in chemistry and also posted a team high .332 batting average with 37 runs scored.

In addition to being a two-time Daktronics-NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete, she started every game in centerfield for the Drovers.

Senior right fielder Jessica Darling was named a Daktronics-NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete for the second straight year as well. Darling, from Healdton, posted a 3.76 GPA in computer science while batting .297 with 27 RBIs.

Shortstop Morgan Thompson was also selected as a Daktronics-NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete. The junior from Anadarko is a communications major with a 3.73 GPA and finished the season with a .330 batting average and a team-high 67 hits and 38 RBIs.
