Drovers Land First-Ever ESPN Academic

- There is more to being an athlete at the University of Science and Arts
than helping your team to a 41-21 record and a third straight national
tournament.
Three of this year’s softball players, again, garnered national recognition
for their work inside the classroom – one was honored by the most
prestigious sports entity in the world.
Outfielder Courtney Foley was one of seven NAIA softball players honored by
ESPN the Magazine for her outstanding efforts as a student-athlete.
The senior from Piedmont finished her college career with a perfect 4.0 GPA
in chemistry and also posted a team high .332 batting average with 37 runs
scored.
In addition to being a two-time Daktronics-NAIA All-American
Scholar-Athlete, she started every game in centerfield for the Drovers.
Senior right fielder Jessica Darling was named a Daktronics-NAIA
All-American Scholar-Athlete for the second straight year as well. Darling,
from Healdton, posted a 3.76 GPA in computer science while batting .297 with
27 RBIs.
Shortstop Morgan Thompson was also selected as a Daktronics-NAIA
All-American Scholar-Athlete. The junior from Anadarko is a communications
major with a 3.73 GPA and finished the season with a .330 batting average
and a team-high 67 hits and 38 RBIs.
